The Los Angeles Chargers have placed Dontrelle Inman on the injured reserved. With the teams wide receiver position in flux, where might they turn for solutions?
In an unfortunate turn of events, the Los Angeles Chargers have placed wide receiver Dontrelle Inman on injured reserve. The injury came after Inman landed awkwardly after a coming down with a big catch in Sunday’s victory over the Miami Dolphins. He stood up with a noticeable limp immediately after the play. Whether or not he needs surgery is still unknown, but obviously the injury is severe enough that his season is over. The timing could not have been worse for the veteran as he was just barely getting into a groove with the team. Hopefully he can land on his feet after rehabbing.
With his injury, that leaves the Chargers with three healthy receivers currently on the roster: Keenan Allen, Geremy Davis and Andre Patton. Mike Williams and Travis Benjamin are each currently battling their own injuries, although Williams should be back sooner rather than later. Inman’s designation likely means the team will be forced to sign a free agent, as they have had to do at the tight end position after signing veterans Lance Kendricks and Stephen Anderson. For those hoping the team makes a big splash, need to realize that is simply not this team’s style. Antonio Brown or Dez Bryant are not walking through the door anytime soon. Instead look for the team to add a solid veteran option on the cheap as they have always done. So let’s talk about some potential solutions to the solving the Chargers newfound lack depth.
