Dontrelle Inman

If Williams can’t go, the Chargers will be without multiple targets in the passing game, making the day ahead for Rivers that much more difficult. Travis Benjamin, the team’s home-run threat, could also be put into this slot, but Inman will likely be called upon to run many of the same routes that normally go to Williams.

Recently brought back to the team after asking for his release from the New England Patriots, Inman was targeted just once against the Colts and caught that pass, gaining five yards on the play.

His role would be heavily increased in this game and with Darius Slay lined up against Allen, he may be the more viable option and many of Rivers’ dropbacks.

Not long ago, the Chargers didn’t even have Inman on their radar. This role would have gone to Artavis Scott or Andre Patton, whichever of those two made the team, but Inman’s return to the team that he started his career with changed that.

Williams has missed many games in his young career due to injury and the Chargers will need to figure out a good backup plan, at least for the coming week. Inman needs to come through when his number is called.
