The defense might not be that good
It’s tough to say that the Chargers’ defense is bad after one game, but it certainly wasn’t good. It’s hard to say how things will go the rest of the year, but here are some concerns:
There is a serious hole in the secondary if Michael Davis is hurt. Brandon Facyson struggled mightily and may not be the kind of player you want to rely on any more than you have to. The idea of trying rookie Nasir Adderley at one of the corner spots has popped up in talks on Twitter among fans and he would probably be at least as good as Facyson was.
The Chargers need Davis and Trevor Williams back on the field as soon as possible.
Letting Marlon Mack run for a 63-yard touchdown was totally unacceptable. This came off the heels of a huge play by Ekeler, a 55-yard touchdown catch that should have started to put the game away, but the Colts came back with an answer,
Even without that play, Mack still would have had over 100 yards rushing on the day while averaging almost seven yards per carry. As good as the Los Angeles running game was, the Colts was even better and that is because the Chargers’ front seven couldn’t do much to stop it.
Isn’t this why Jerry Tillery was brought in?
Also, one note. Thomas Davis led the team with 14 tackles.
