Spoiler Alert: these six predictions reveal the fate of the Los Angeles Chargers this season.

One year ago in my first Bolt Beat editorial, I predicted that last season’s Chargers would be significantly better, and lo and behold, the Bolts went 12-4 and won a playoff game. So even a bald prophet gets it right once in a while.

Here are six bald predictions for the entire season, you decide which ones you’d swipe left and any you’d swipe right.

Bald Prediction No. 1:

The Chargers will make the Super Bowl, if…

If they win the AFC West division. Last playoffs, Bil Belichick’s New England Patriots had a whole extra week to prepare for the L.A. Chargers, rendering the Bolts’ wonderful victory over the Baltimore Ravens a short-lived triumph. With or without Melvin Gordon, with or without Derwin James, the Chargers can win the wild west over the Kansas City Chiefs, Denver Broncos and Oakland Raiders, and snag a crucial bye-week by becoming one of the top two AFC divisional champs. But can they?

Bald Prediction No. 2:

The Chargers will win the AFC West, if..

If the Bolts go 5-1 in the division and at least split with Kansas City (despite the Chiefs’ new defense).  They need to sweep the unpredictable Raiders and the improved Broncos. That’s six of their 16 games going 5-1. Even if they only win six of their remaining ten games, that’s still a respectable 11-5. If the Chargers drop two games in their division, but go 7-1 with the rest, that 13-3 win-loss record will still get them the AFC West crown, and that critical first-round bye.

So what needs to happen, other than the Kansas City Chiefs’ generational quarterback Patrick Mahomes returning to earth (or Krypton), for the Bolts to win 5 divisional games?
