Teams will soon trim down their 90-man roster to 53, and that always comes with a few surprises.

This week’s bold predictions article will have a different twist to it. The last preseason game is behind us, but really, the game was only important because it was the last chance for some players to show what they can do on the gridiron before the roster cut deadline.

The Los Angeles Chargers staff will have some tough decisions to make on Saturday, August 31st, as they will have to reduce their current roster to 53. The Bolts have a deep and talented roster, and that means some of the players that are cut may not come back.

Players that are cut have to go through the waiver system, where every other team in the league has the chance to claim them. If they manage to clear waivers, they can be added to the practice squad, if eligible.

That is the main reason why some players, like Easton Stick, have a low chance to be cut, even if he occupies a very valuable roster spot. If he is cut, the Chargers would have to see their fifth-round pick get nabbed by another team, and they probably won’t risk that.

But other players who are seen as locks to make the roster can get cut, and unknown fringe players who caught the eye of the coaching staff can make the team. So here are some bold predictions as to what those surprises may be.
