The linebacker position is going to be so fun to keep track of this summer as there is such a wealth of talent on this team and there are so many different combinations of players the organization could decide to go with.
For those wondering, that goes for both the inside linebacker and outside linebacker spots.
General manager Tom Telesco has done his homework and really loaded up on linebackers over the last couple of years. While that is a great thing for the team as a whole, he could be faced with some tough decisions this year.
Who is on the team for sure? Denzel Perryman, Thomas Davis, Uchenna Nwosu, Kyzir White and Drue Tranquil, in all likelihood. Players such as Jatavis Brown and sixth-round pick Emeke Egbule should be on the squad, but they’re far from locked in.
Where does that leave a guy like Nick Dzubnar? The special teams ace could be looking for work elsewhere, as the rookie Tranquill can play special teams. The fourth-round selection could also push Brown for playing time and perhaps even off the roster.
There will be a lot to digest with this group and each rep in camp and snap in the preseason will mean something for these guys. The Chargers have a good linebacking corps with a load of talent but they can’t keep them all so some tough decisions will be required.
