Players lost to free agency

Tyrell Williams: It was widely expected that the Chargers would not be able to re-sign Williams. After going from undrafted rookie to a productive option in the passing game, it was clear that another team was going to show him the money. Unfortunately, that ended up being a team within the division in the Oakland Raiders.

Jason Verrett: It’s tough to watch a former first-round pick walk out the door, especially when there’s a chance he can still be quite good on the field. But injuries happened too often with Verrett and the Chargers were basically forced to give up on him. He’ll try to resurrect his career in San Francisco.

Darius Philon: A player the Chargers 100 percent should have re-signed, Philon is going to the desert to play for the Arizona Cardinals. Light on depth along the defensive line, it’s quite strange that the Chargers let Philon walk, as it would not have broken the bank to bring him back. Tom Telesco must have a vision for the draft, but this was a poor move, at least as it stands now.
