Compiling a list of greatest defensive players in Los Angeles Chargers history won’t be as cut and dry as it would be for the offensive side of the ball.

The Chargers have forever been defined by names such as Coryell, Fouts, Tomlinson, and Rivers. That’s why when creating an offensive Mount Rushmore, it was tough to cut it down to four players.

Still, there have been some terrific defensive players across the 60 years of this franchise’s history.

These players not only pressured and sacked the quarterback, forced turnovers and instilled fear in opponents, but they were also exemplary leaders on the field. Each of these players dominated in different eras and brought force bone-crushing hits and game-changing plays.

For the purpose of this list, every player who has ever put on a Chargers uniform was taken into consideration. So yes, that includes the majority of the time that this team spent in San Diego.

While there will never be a huge monument that you can go see these players faces together the way that you can George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, and Theodore Roosevelt, hopefully, you’ll be able to see all of their busts in the Pro Football Hall of Fame someday.
