Why do the Los Angeles Chargers continue to try and get Travis Benjamin involved when we have other threats we need to get the ball to?
I thought we moved away from all the questionable players. I thought we got rid of Caleb Sturgis. Then we started getting Jahleel Addae in better opportunities on the field. We barely see Kyle Emmanuel now. With the team getting prepped for playoffs, I thought we had it all settled.
Then came Sunday morning and I saw Travis Benjamin back returning punts again!? Why!?
I know Desmond King struggled returning punts the week before, but he has shown that he is a playmaker with the ball in his hands and shouldn’t have continued that role going into this weekend.
What is the love affair with Benjamin. We know that he is fast as all heck, but he has made his own mistakes in the punt return game. I barely like when we give him that one reverse a game. I am sure he will break one at some point, but we have shown that we can run the reverse with any of our other playmakers.
On offense, we see that Tyrell Williams is going to stretch the field and will fight for the football down the field if there is a jump ball situation. I know that Travis will wait for the ball to get to him and it could end up in a pick or a batted ball.
Travis Benjamin is the 4th best option on offense and shouldn’t be returning punts any longer. I just don’t understand why our special teams coach wants to keep something controversial for us to talk about!
