You have to figure that Denzel Perryman and second-round pick Uchenna Nwosu are going to man the outside linebacker spots for the Chargers, but what will the team do at middle linebacker?
Will they go with Hayes Pullard again? Many fans likely don’t feel like he’s the best option? Should Jatavis Brown be the guy or will fourth-round pick, Kyzir White, be placed at that spot.
Truthfully, we’re likely to see a combination of all three.
Last season, the team seemed to trust Pullard more, particularly down the stretch. Gus Bradley must have felt he understood his system better. Brown is a better athlete and should be given every opportunity to win the job and White will play a safety-linebacker hybrid role and be a force in certain packages.
The Chargers have given themselves plenty of options at the linebacker spot this year and that was clearby the way Tom Telesco attacked the draft. But they can’t all make the team.
Kyle Emanuel, Nick Dzubnar, James Onwualu and D’Juan Hines are all on the roster as well, so will there be room to keep both Brown and Pullard? It will be an interesting competition in camp to be sure.
One of the biggest frustrations for fans last season was the way the team went away from Brown in favor of Pullard. Hopefully for Brown’s sake, Bradley sees him as a better fit for his defensive scheme this season.
