Defense

The Chargers have a dynamic offense and now, they also possess a stifling defense.

Led by the pass rush of Joey Bosa and Melvin Ingram, the Bolts also have what might be the best secondary in the league. Here’s a look at the projected starters on that defense as we inch closer to the start of camp.

DE- Joey Bosa

DT- Brandon Mebane

DT- Corey Liuget (will miss first four games of season due to suspension)

DE- Melvin Ingram

LB- Denzel Perryman

LB- Jatavis Brown

LB- Uchenna Nwosu (R)

CB- Casey Hayward

CB- Jason Verrett

FS- Derwin James

SS- Jahleel Addae

The Chargers have some options here, despite what appears to be a great defensive lineup.

Jason Verrett is listed as a starter only because he’s never really lost the job due to performance, he just can’t stay healthy. That said, Trevor Williams deserves every chance to take that job. In addition, Desmond King should be on the field as often as the Chargers can get him there.

Joey Bosa is a defensive MVP-caliber player and Melvin Ingram isn’t too shabby himself. The question lies at linebacker.

Players the team relied on last year such as Hayes Pullard and Kyle Emanuel will likely be in reserve roles this season as the team works in the younger trio of Uchenna Nwosu, Kyzir White and Jatavis Brown.

All in all, this is a terrific group which will match up well with just about every team it faces. Gus Bradley should have a field day attacking offenses this coming season.
