Round 3 (84th overall): Tim Settle, DT, Virginia Tech

We’ve waited until the third round to grab a defensive lineman, but that’s A-OK because there’s a ton of talent at the position.

The Chargers desperately need to stop the run, and adding Evans and now Tim Settle should do the trick. Settle only played two seasons for the Hokies and compiled 53 total tackles in 26 games. However, he was a beast in 2017, earning second-team ALL-ACC honors. Overall, he’s a dominant interior disruptor who finished with 53 total tackles, including 19.5 tackles for loss (12.5 last season tied for second-most on team) and four sacks (all last season) over his two-year career. He was also credited with two blocked kicks.

His bad combine performance might have hurt his draft stock, but his ceiling is very high. Scouts rave about the 6-foot-3, 335-pounder’s size and athleticism. He’d take over for an aging Brandon Mebane at the 1-tech right away.
