Sam Darnold, QB, USC
There are plenty of fans who feel this is the year for the Chargers to address the future of the quarterback position. You’ve likely heard the names of Lamar Jackson and Mason Rudolph being tabbed as that potential future face of the franchise, but he’s a name you probably haven’t heard.
Yes, one of our writers feels that Sam Darnold could end up being the future of the Chargers at the quarterback position.
Lawrence Elliott: “I’m sorry to say this, but the time has come. We need a quarterback. Philip Rivers has done a masterful job with the Chargers, but the end of the road comes for every player. All-PAC 12 QB Sam Darnold is who I’d pick to replace him. He has a gun for an arm and is very mobile. He threw 26 touchdowns and can go through his progressions so well it makes him a great fit for the pro game. Playing for USC means he’s used to the pressure of the game. Since he completed 63 percent of his passes, a good running game will only make him better. However, he’s had 24 turnovers (13 interceptions, 11 fumbles), so getting him late would probably make better sense.”
