2. Denzel Perryman makes a world of difference to this defense

Since Denzel Perryman’s return, here are the statistics of opposing starting running backs when working against the Chargers:

Leonard Fournette: 33 yards

LeSean McCoy: 114 yards

Alfred Morris: 36 yards

Isaiah Crowell: 41 yards

Samaje Perine: 45 yards

You could argue that part of the statistics are due to the Chargers playing with a lead, and you’d definitely have merit there. But there’s no Bolts linebacker doing this right now:

He has made an incredible impact on this defense, and he will have to make plays against Kareem Hunt and the Chiefs’ offense. Last game, Hunt had 172 yards on 17 carries, with a long touchdown of 69 yards. If Perryman can come in and force long third downs for the Chiefs, the pass rushers can get to Alex Smith. This year, they’ve already done it five times (Bosa 1.0, Ingram 3.0, McCain 1.0). Look for them to add to that total this Saturday.
