Three preseason games have been played and one more remains for the Los Angeles Chargers.
The team will conclude its preseason slate this Thursday night against the San Francisco 49ers. That game will be used as a showcase for those players sitting on the roster bubble who are looking to make one final impression on the coaching staff.
Many of the roster spots have already been decided and they will become official before the deadline on September 2.
The Chargers currently have 90 players on the roster, not including three players—Asante Cleveland, Chris Landrum and Charmeachelle Moore—who have been placed on injured reserve. Forrest Lamp will also miss the season after tearing his ACL early on in camp.
That means I’m about to predict about 35 players who will be cut in the coming week. Think of this as a 53-man roster prediction in reverse, if you will.
Also keep in mind that Mike Williams will begin the season on the PUP list, but as soon as he returns, one of the guys who is on the active roster will be cut loose to make room for the first-round pick.
