In preparation for the upcoming NFL season, the biggest thing to watch for in training camp and preseason games is which players are going to win the job at certain positions.
Some of these aren’t in question.
The starting quarterback position for the Los Angeles Chargers is one that is not in question. The team hasn’t had a quarterback controversy since it moved on from Drew Brees, and that was nipped in the bud before it ever really became a controversy.
Philip Rivers is the quarterback and will be for at least the next handful of years, but every team needs a solid backup. Now, if you consider Kellen Clemens to be solid, there’s not much to see here.
However, the team brought in a quarterback through the undrafted free-agent process last offseason and then again this offseason. That could suggest that the Chargers would like to see a guy step up and knock Clemens out of that role.
As we dive into our first training camp battle, let’s talk about the candidates for the backup quarterback position. We’ll then make a prediction as to which player will win the competition.
