Tom Telesco has had his work cut out for him since becoming general manager of the Los Angeles Chargers prior to the start of the 2013 season. In that time, the team has made the playoffs just once.
He’s had his share of bad draft picks, but he’s made more good ones than a lot of people give him credit for. In fact, paring this list down to just five guys wasn’t easy. As a result, players like Melvin Gordon and Jeremiah Attaochu won’t even appear on this list.
Telesco traded up to get both of those guys, so perhaps that has something to do with their omission?
The value of a good draft pick is getting a guy that you maybe shouldn’t have been able to get at that spot. The ability to find a solid producer in the later rounds is what separates a good GM from a bad one.
Telesco has done that, and that was part of the criteria I considered while compiling this list. Each player on this list is still part of the team and their future is bright.
Earlier, I took a look at the worst draft picks the Chargers have made since 2013. Here, we celebrate some of Telesco’s better decisions.
