The San Diego Chargers will not be letting their star wide receiver go this time.
According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the Chargers and Keenan Allen have agreed to a four-year extension. The deal is reportedly worth more than $11 million per season.
Allen, 24, is a big piece of the puzzle. According to Michael Gehlken, the Chargers’ offense ranked No. 1 through eight games which they had Allen, and they fell to 24th overall in the final eight games without him.
While he has 215 receptions for 2,554 yards and 16 touchdowns over three years, Allen has been a bit unlucky with injuries. He hasn’t played a full 16-game season since he came into the league in 2013. If he can stay healthy, Allen has the potential to be a top-five receiver in the league.
After signing Travis Benjamin to a four-year deal in free agency, the Chargers now have two young, solid receivers locked up through at least 2019.
