With their compensatory fifth-round pick, the Chargers select LB Jatavis Brown out of Akron. For a late-round pick there is a lot to like about this kid value wise. Telesco decided to go with one of the best pure athletes in this draft with Brown.

Jatavis ran a 4.44 40-yard dash at the combine, which is almost unheard of for a linebacker. He could become a LB/SS hybrid type player in the future; however, it seems more likely that he will become an OLB with the Chargers and play in pure passing down sub packages.

Various draft sites had him going anywhere between the third and fifth round, so the value at the end of the fifth is similar to that of the Joshua Perry pick. This has the makings of Telesco’s best draft as a general manager so far.
