What do the San Diego Chargers do now at the center position, with the top available option signing in Atlanta? With Mack signing with the Falcons, the Chargers need to sign a veteran free agent to add to this roster, but will have to use a high draft selection to solidify the center position.
At this moment, Chris Watt is the starter on the team and he has not been healthy enough to have any confidence in him as the starter at the position. He has not even shown much potential at the position to be called the starter. In free agency, the team can sign a player like Stefen Wisniewski or Manny Ramirez to give the team some depth. Either player would be much better than Trevor Robinson was last season, but neither option would be a solid option as an every day starter.
If the team wants to upgrade on that offensive line, then they will have to hope that a solid center becomes available in free agency or the team will have to use their 2nd round draft pick to take Ryan Kelly of Alabama or Nick Martin of Notre Dame. Either player would make a solid starter on our offense.
With the signing of Travis Benjamin in free agency, the Chargers will not have to look at wide receiver in the 2nd round of the draft any longer and can focus on grabbing a starter on the offensive line. With Mack gone in free agency, the team can focus on safety and defensive line prospects to add in free agency. George Iloka or Tayshaun Gipson could be options that the Chargers look at in free agency. The team can also look at the possibility of Damon Harrison or Nick Fairley. There still are other holes to fill on this team and the center position will have to be filled through the draft.
