The San Diego Chargers were able to re-sign Antonio Gates this morning, but the team will have to find a new young phenom to take the back seat role behind the future hall of fame tight end. Ladarius Green had been groomed to be the replacement for Gates for the last few years and will be signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers.

It was going to be tough to keep Green on the roster after he entered free agency. He was looking for playing time and looking to become a starter. He will get that opportunity with Ben Roethlisberger as his quarterback. It will be a nice situation for him to prove that he can be a solid threat on offense. He should get plenty of opportunities to make plays with Pittsburgh.

The Chargers have Antonio Gates for at least the next two seasons and he will likely call it quits at the end of this deal. The Chargers then will have to find someone to step in as the starter at the end of that contract. The team will need to find some depth at the position for this year. Will the team look to find some blocking talent at the position or will they look to add some young talent in the draft?

I would hope the team adds some veteran depth onto the roster. A player that can help blocking in the passing and running game would be a nice addition at the position. It would have been nice to keep Green around, but we will be moving forward without him.
