The flood gates of free agency are about to open up and this could be a big season for the San Diego Chargers. The Chargers might actually open up the wallet a bit and get into some bidding wars for some key players. The possibilities of adding a top notch center is there if they want to get into the bidding for Alex Mack. The possibility of adding an interior defensive lineman is there with Damon Harrison.
The Chargers have a lot of holes to fill all around the roster and should open up the wallets a bit to fill some of those holes. They can’t find all their starters through the draft this time around. Eric Weddle will be switching jerseys in free agency and that opens up a spot in the secondary for the Chargers to fill. There are a number of capable safeties available in free agency. The team could be looking to upgrade at both safety positions. George Iloka would be a solid safety to add back there with the addition of Jalen Ramsey in the draft. Tashaun Gipson is another safety to keep our eyes on in free agency.
The Chargers will also need to find some speed at the wide receiver spot. Malcom Floyd’s ability to stretch the field will no longer be part of our roster and the team needs to find some players that can open things up in the passing game. Travis Benjamin would be a solid pickup in free agency to stretch the field and to help on special teams.
The Chargers need to bring in some talent on this roster. After a 4-12 season, there needs to be some upgrades throughout this roster. Philip Rivers only has so many years left in the league. We have to take advantage of having his skills at the quarterback position and build around him. Let’s get him a few more chances at a ring!
The window for teams to start talking to free agents begins today. Let’s see if the Chargers get right into the middle of things this year. Let’s see how serious they are about winning.
