It is a rough day for the Donalds in San Diego. The San Diego Chargers released Donald Butler earlier in the day and now have released Donald Brown.

There it is: Chargers have released RB Donald Brown. He was due $500K roster bonus next week. Brown and Butler both expected.

Brown was the most overpaid 4th running back in the league. The Chargers kept him on the roster throughout the year and had some of the better runs for the team this year, but he was not worth keeping on the team for another year. Tom Telesco has overpaid for running backs during his career with the Chargers, but he couldn’t find a reason to keep Donald Brown on the roster any longer.

The release of bother Donald Brown and Donald Butler frees up a nice chunk of change for the Chargers in free agency:

Releases of LB Donald Butler, RB Donald Brown create $8.15M in cash savings for Chargers as free agency approaches next week.

Expect the Chargers to bring in  some talent through free agency this year. They have not been big players in free agency in the past, but this year could be different. Tom Telesco and Mike McCoy are on the hot seat and both need to prove that they can get this team to start getting some wins.

The team also released Kavell Conner and Chi Chi Ariguzo. The team will need to add some depth at middle linebacker this year, but there is solid talent at the starting spot with Manti Te’o and Denzel Perryman locking it down.
