Open Thread: Chargers @ Chiefs

By Peter Thompson

Good Morning Charger Faithful!

The San Diego Chargers travel to the Arrowhead stadium to play the Kansas City Chiefs this morning. The last time these teams met, the Chiefs smoked the Chargers in a 33-3 drubbing at Qualcomm. There is little hope that the Chargers can flip the script, and win this game. Nor is there much reason to, except for pride & bragging rights. The Chargers are in the hunt for a top 3 pick, and need to fill some serious holes on their roster this offseason.

There is probably not that much to worry about, as the Chiefs are just a better team. Even without Jamaal Charles, they are light years ahead of the Chargers it seems. Rivers has had some pretty impressive performances with no-name receivers before, but he is missing half of his receiving corps, and is working behind a patchwork offensive line. The Chargers just re-signed ex-Charger Vincent Brown, so there is that. But, I am not expecting him to pull out a Seyi Ajirotutu-type walk off catch in his first week off of the couch. Having said that, I hope he plays well. I know a lot of people don’t like V-Brown, but it would be nice if he suddenly gave the Chargers what they had always hope he would… consistency.

So, enjoy the game. Thanks for getting up early to join us, and GO BOLTS, or not. Whatever is clever today. Let’s just hope for a decent performance.
