The San Diego Chargers have released Jacoby Jones off of the roster. He has made some terrible decisions in the return game and gets the ax. The return duties will likely go to Javontee Herndon now that he has been added to the 53 man roster.
Chargers have released WR Jacoby Jones, team announced. He signed two-year, $5.5 million deal in March. Had five punt returns for -4 yards.

The Chargers have been awful this season in the return game. Jones will get a brunt of the blame for the struggles, but the defense should also get some attention on why the punt returns have been so bad. A lot of the time, the defense has allowed the team to move down the field and the returner has to signal for a fair catch or let it roll into the end zone.
This team still should have more return yards than it has and it should see an increase with Herndon back there. The return game has been an issue for a long time and Jones was supposed to be the solution when he was signed onto the roster, but he has not done anything with his chances.
I liked the signing when the team made the move, but he has not proven anything and it is time to move on. At least we were able to admit that mistake.
