Chargers News: DJ Fluker out 4-6 weeks

It looked bad when we initially saw DJ Fluker writhing in pain on the ground on Sunday afternoon when the Chargers were going up against the Lions. When the cart came out to take him off of the field, we thought that he could be lost for the season.

Instead he suffered a high ankle sprain and will be out for 4-6 weeks. He will get back on the field with the team and will get to step back in as the starting right guard for the Chargers.

The bigger question is who will step up to take the right guard spot now and who will the team cut in order to make room for another offensive lineman? The team started out Sunday’s game with only 7 active offensive lineman and each one of them had to get into the game on Sunday. If there were another injury to happen, we might have had to put John Phillips on the offensive line.

Johnnie Troutman is nursing an injury already and now Fluker is out. Chris Hairston immediately stepped in to replace Fluker when he went down. He likely will be the starter this weekend when the team makes their moves as well. The team will need to find more depth on the roster at the position with all the injuries that are mounting now.

Hopefully we can stop the bleeding. Last season we struggled after all our centers went down with an injury. We don’t need that type of struggle this year. Happy to get Fluker back later in the year and we just hope that Hairston will be able to step it up until he returns.
