Chargers head coach not aware of team captains

Apparently, the San Diego Chargers have NOT selected their team captains for the season yet even though the team web site shared this season’s captains. We shared the same information that was passed out from the team site, but head coach Mike McCoy stepped up to the podium today and told the media that we have not selected our team captains yet.  He said that it was “false information.”

Mike McCoy said team tweet about captains was "false information." Said team didn't pick captains yet. Does it first wk of season. #chargers

So why was there a post released on the team site? Who effed this one up? What vote did the team site know about that Mike McCoy was not aware of?

The Chargers team site named Philip Rivers and King Dunlap as the offensive captains, Eric Weddle and Corey Liuget were the defensive captains and Darrell Stuckey was the special teams captain. Is this going to change later in the preseason? Did they not like the results of the team vote?

Why does this not surprise Chargers fans? Why does this seem to be the norm? Remember when Kevin Acee said that Philip Rivers virtually would not sign a new deal before the start of the season? Now we have Philip locked in for a number of years.

The Chargers twitter account has released an update and corrected the captains list:

CORRECTION: Team captains for the season have not been decided. Rivers, Dunlap, Weddle, Liuget, Stuckey were named captains for Dallas game.
