December 20, 2014; Santa Clara, CA, USA; San Diego Chargers outside linebacker Dwight Freeney (93) during the third quarter against the San Francisco 49ers at Levi

The team had Dwight Freeney on the roster for the last couple of seasons and might want to take a flier on him one more time. Freeney still showed that he could bring pressure off of the edge when he was in games and could be used in the pass rushing specialist role again. He had been the starting outside linebacker on the roster last season since there were so many injuries on the roster. He could have a more limited and focused role now.

In a limited role, Freeney could provide a spark off of the bench. He could be that specialist that is asked to pin his ears back and get the quarterback. When his whole purpose is to chase after the quarterback on passing downs, we could unleash someone that can make a splash. A rested Freeney against a tired pass blocker could be fun to watch for Chargers fans.

There are other options that the team could look for in free agency as well. The team could wait till the end of the preseason to see what pops up on the waiver wire or they could pick up someone that is already familiar with the team and with the coaching staff.

Would you take a flier on Dwight Freeney? Would you wait to see what else happens?
