The Chargers never brought in competition at the starting right guard position in the offseason. This offseason, the team signed Orlando Franklin to take the starting left guard spot and then signed Joe Barksdale as a “reserve”.  Our top prioroity was to fix the offensive front to get more time for Philip Rivers and to open up some holes in the run game. Were we really planning to keep our worst offensive lineman in the starting lineup? That would have been a stupid move by the front office.

If we didn’t consider Fluker in the race for the starting right guard spot, then we would be looking at Johnnie Troutman competing for the starting job with Michael Huey or Jeremiah Sirles or Kenny Wiggins. Now we have the first round selection shifted into that position and everyone has been saying that guard was better suited for Fluker since he was drafted. Now we will get to see what everyone else was predicting right from his draft day.
