San Diego Chargers willing to franchise tag Philip Rivers

If we start using franchise tags on Philip Rivers for the next couple of years, then we are going to have to use a draft pick on a quarterback soon. We can’t continue to pay Philip Rivers that money and not have a backup if he does decide to walk. At some point, the team will have to decide if they are keeping Philip for a number of years or they will let him walk away.
If they let him walk, we better have plans on who will take control of the position next. The quarterback of the future is not on the roster at the moment. We are not going to trust in Kellen Clemens to lead this team in the future. That would be a sad look going into a season. If they franchise at the end of the year, then they likely will have to use a decent draft pick on a quarterback.
Do we really want to start over again?
