The San Diego Chargers brought in Stevie Johnson this offseason through free agency after Eddie Royal dipped out to the Chicago Bears. The move didn’t shake the earth in the NFL world, but it definitely could be something that will open up eyes when the season starts.
Johnson has come into camp and has already opened up eyes. He is already getting the attention from the guys standing over on the sideline with the clipboards in their hands. The guys in the media already see something building. Johnson was a forgotten man during his tenure with the San Francisco 49ers, but he is looking to stand out from the crowd this season with Philip Rivers throwing him the football.
There are a number of reasons why Johnson should thrive this season with the Chargers. He will get plenty of playing time to show off his skills and will be moved all around the field on offense. He will line up outside and in the slot for the team and will get plenty of action if he can find the room to work. There is already talk that Philip and Johnson are picking up a good chemistry in camp. We will have to see how that translates to the field. The last time they said that about Philip and a player, we were talking about Danny Woodhead. They seemed to hit it off quite nicely.
