Denzel Perryman was taken in the second round by the Chargers and he was brought in to bring depth at linebacker. We know that he can lay some people out when he makes the hit. That is something I will be looking forward to seeing. He could get more playing time than Gordon on Thursday, since he is working with the 2nd team. It will be fun to see him running around on defense and making plays in the run game.
I have high expectations for Perryman. He has the ability to be a starter in this game and can be a playmaker if he gets the opportunity to play. He will be working behind Donald Butler and Manti Te’o in his rookie year, but I have a feeling that he will be fighting for a lot of reps. Just get him on the field and hopefully he can lay someone out with a bone crushing hit.
This team needs someone to step up against the run. This team needs someone to fill the gaps and to take on the lead blockers. This team needs someone mean on defense to strike some fear in opponents. Perryman will be the guy that we expect to step into that role.
