D.J. Fluker getting work at guard

The San Diego Chargers are working DJ Fluker at guard some during OTAs.

The move for D.J. Fluker from right tackle to right guard is not official, but there are steps that are being made that could get us there. With the signing of Joe Barksdale in the offseason, there has been a lot of speculation that Fluker would move inside on the line to take the starting job at right guard and Barksdale would take over the right tackle duties. Will we see that move coming soon?

When the team got into OTA’s this season there was a lot of shuffling along the line. King Dunlap didn’t show up early in camp, so Fluker played some left tackle and Barksdale played some right tackle. With Dunlap back at OTAs, Fluker is back at right tackle and Dunlap took the left tackle spot. Barksdale is working with the second team at the right tackle spot.

Fluker did admit that he saw some time at guard last week. That is one step closer to possibly moving to that position.

D.J. Fluker: "I've been working my tail off to get better." He is team's right tackle. Says he worked a little at guard last week.

Having Fluker and Barksdale on the right side sounds much stronger than having Fluker and Johnnie Troutman on the right side of the line. We will see what the team is working with when training camp opens up, but the possibilities of Fluker moving inside to the guard position will be something that we all will be watching carefully. The team will put out the best 5 players up front that they can. They need to protect Philip Rivers and they need to create some running lanes for Melvin Gordon.
