The San Diego Chargers are working on a contract extension with DE Corey Liuget.
All the talk about contract extensions with the Chargers has been centered around Eric Weddle and Philip Rivers. Weddle is holding out from OTAs and doesn’t plan on returning until he gets a new deal. Rivers wants to finish his career with the Chargers, but the team is working on figuring something out. While those two sides are waiting on their new extensions, the Chargers are working on a contract extension for DE Corey Liuget.
Liuget is one of the key pieces on the defense and has been the best defensive linemen on the team for years. He doesn’t get the credit that he deserves sometimes, but the management knows the work that he does up front and are looking to sign him to a long-term deal.
While the focus has been on Philip Rivers & Eric Weddle, #Chargers are quietly working on an extension for DE Corey Liuget. He’s a priority

The team should look to add more players up front to the defensive line to get Liuget more help. He had his best year when he had a legit nose tackle, Aubrayo Franklin, on the roster playing right next to him. That season Liuget had 7 sacks and knocked down 9 passes. The team still has not found any upgrades to the defensive line and will have to lean on Liuget to carry most of the work. At some point, the defensive line will need to become a priority for the Chargers.
