The San Diego Chargers could use some help up front on the offensive line and are bringing in free agent RT Joe Barksdale for a visit.
The San Diego Chargers are bringing in Joe Barksdale for a free agent visit, per Michael Gehlken. He could be a solution to the issues up front if the team were to sign him to a deal. Barksdale is a righttackle that has spent the last couple of seasons starting with the St. Louis Rams and would likely push D.J. Fluker inside to the guard spot. That would immediately put Johnnie Troutman to the bench and give the team some much-needed help up front. We need to see Johnnie Troutman on the bench!
The Chargers needed to add a few solid players up front this offseason and the only player that they have added at this point is Orlando Franklin to play left guard. The Chargers didn’t add any help up front through the draft, so they will be looking in free agency to find an upgrade. Joe Barksdale could be the solution that they are looking for.
Barksdale has met with the Atlanta Falcons this offseason, but left without a deal. He could return to St. Louis to compete for a starting role with them, but in San Diego he likely will get the starting right tackle job.
This would be huge for the Chargers up front. This would help Philip Rivers get more time to toss the rock down the field and would also create some space for rookie Melvin Gordon to run. Fluker would also get some solid pieces working on the both sides of him and he can focus on dominating the guy up front instead of worrying about a speed rush on his outside. This would be a solid move for the Chargers to sign Barksdale. They need to get it done.
What do you all think of the possibility?
