Mel Kiper released his mos recent NFL mock draft and he has the San Diego Chargers selecting Texas DT Malcom Brown.
Mel Kiper has released his latest mock draft and he has the San Diego Chargers selecting Texas DT Malcom Brown with the 17th overall pick. Here is his analysis of the pick:
Kiper has mocked Brown to the Chargers a couple of times now. The selection makes sense. The team has needed a big nose tackle to hold down the middle of the defensive line for a long time, but Tom Telesco believes that his team is set with the players that are already on the roster. The Chargers needed help at the position in the past and have passed on a number of solid nose tackles in the draft. With the Chargers poor run defense, Brown would help turn things around, but it seems that Telesco has other plans on his mind.
Kiper did leave the possibility of the Chargers taking Marcus Mariota in a trade with Tennessee. He mocked Mariota with the 2nd selection, but he didn’t sound like he believed that the Titans would be making that selection. He mentioned the Chargers as a possibility to make the move up to take Mariota with the 2nd overall selection.
The mocks are going to go crazy this year. The rumors have been crazy with Philip Rivers and they will not die until after the NFL Draft. We only have a few more weeks of hearing all the madness with Philip and Mariota.
By taking Brown, the team would pass on both running backs, Todd Gurley and Melvin Gordon. They would also pass on tackles Andrus Peat and Ereck Flowers with the selection. Both pass rushers Bud Dupree and Randy Gregory were mocked before the San Diego Chargers selection was made. I believe that the Chargers will go in a different direction.
