The San Diego Chargers have a number of areas of need that will have to be filled during the draft or free agency.

The San Diego Chargers have a number of areas of need still going into the NFL draft. The team is prepping for the draft at the end of the month and there still are starting jobs that could be filled on this roster. The team could trot out players like Branden Oliver, Johnnie Troutman and Kendall Reyes as the starters next year, but the team could find some upgrades in the draft.

The Chargers didn’t find anyone in free agency to compete for those starting jobs, but could find a few players in the draft to compete. With all the talk about Marus Mariota and looking at possible quarterbacks that the team could take, the team needs to look at filling other positions first. Philip Rivers is on this roster and will be running the team for the 2015 season.  As long as he is around, the team does not have to panic about finding another quarterback on the roster. There are not very many good quarterbacks in this draft anyway. Even if Mariota falls to the Chargers in the draft, the team should move in a different direction. The needs at different positions are larger at the moment.

Let’s look a little deeper at some of the areas of need for the Chargers.
