Ricardo Mathews has re-signed with the San Diego Chargers after a successful season.
The San Diego Chargers are making some moves today. The team already has released OG Chad Rinehart, signed Orlando Franklin and now has re-signed DE Ricardo Mathews to a new deal.
We have agreed to terms with C Trevor Robinson and DE Ricardo Mathews. We also released G Chad Rinehart. http://t.co/XoMBl0jjb5

Mathews was solid for the defensive line in his opportunities on defense. He played with a nastiness and edge to him that we have not seen in a long time. It was nice to see that on the field for the Chargers defense.
He will bring depth to the defensive line. He likely should move up on the depth chart over Kendall Reyes based on the way that they both played last season, so we will watch them battle it out during the offseason.
The team will look to add more depth on the defensive line this offseason as well. Many people have projected the team to take a defensive line player in the first round of the draft. The focus for the team has been in the trenches. That is where we will win the games. We want to get tougher in there and we are going to find the players that will help us win the battles down there.
Mathews will be a key rotational player on defense. He always is hustling to get to the football and will make the hard hit when he gets to the football. He will be a fun player to keep our eyes on.
