Pettis is a 6-foot-2 wide receiver out of Boise State. He was drafted in the 3rd round in 2011 by the St. Louis Rams and will be entering his 5th season in the league. He has a total if 1034 receiving yards in his career and 9 touchdowns.

He has been used in punt returns with the Rams and could work out at that spot with the team. He could contribute to the Chargers special teams and would likely compete for the role that Seyi Ajirotutu had on the roster.

Ajirotutu is only a special teams player. He struggled to contribute to the offense last season. He had made some highlight plays in the past, but he lost his spot on the depth chart to Dontrelle Inman late in the season. Ajirotutu will have to show some added value on offense if Pettis can show that he can contribute to the special teams.

Pettis worked out for the Chargers in December and ge must have shown enough talent during that workout to get an opportunity with the team. The team still should look to add another wide receiver onto the roster in order to compete for a starting role. They could look toward free agency or in the draft to add some top talent at the position.

The team needs to get Philip Rivers more weapons. Getting another wide receiver to work with Keenan Allen would be a nice piece to the puzzle.
