San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator Frank Reich is a wanted man. He rose from the quarterback coach under Ken Whisenhunt to become the offensive coordinator for the Chargers last season and now is getting phone calls for head coaching jobs. What a quick rise he has had.
The Chargers fans were not in love with Frank toward the end of the season for the playcalls in games, but he has the attention of some franchises. The Buffalo Bills and the New York Jets are both interested in him to become their new head coach.
Frank interviewed with the Bills over the weekend and he will meet up with the Jets this week. He could be making the decisions for those teams in the near future. Both have had some troubles on the offensive side of the ball.
Frank took over the offensive coordinator job from Ken Whisenhunt last season. It was his first season as an offensive coordinator in the NFL. He took over the league’s 9th ranked offense and the team dropped to 16th in offense.
The Chargers had some issues up front with the offensive line and in the running game. Some of the injuries on the roster were crippling. The injuries to all the centers hurt the offensive line all around.
The injuries to Ryan Mathews and Danny Woodhead took away any form of a run game for the team. The team was still able to make some things happen on offense with Philip Rivers, but with some of the other players on the roster out with injuries, the team offense struggled.
Frank will get another chance to coach the offense for the Chargers unless he lands a job with New York or Buffalo. If he does land a job out East, who will the Chargers bring in to run the offense? Will they look to bring in a coach that has a lot of experience like Whisenhunt had or will they bring up someone that is already on the team? Are Chargers fans hoping he lands a job with one of these teams?
