Happy Birthday to San Diego Chargers S Eric Weddle. Today Weddle turned 30 years old and it is too bad the Chargers were not on the field to play during his birthday. More San Diego fans would be watching football today if the team were on the air. Instead, the guys are watching other teams fight for the Super Bowl and the Chargers are resting up for next season.

Eric was selected in the 2007 NFL Draft. A.J. Smith made a bold move up the draft in order to take Weddle. The team traded the 62nd selection (2nd round), 93rd selection (3rd round), 167th pick (5th round) and a 2008 3rd rounder to the Chicago Bears in order to select Weddle. That was a lot of loot to the Bears to take Weddle.

When asked about all the picks that the team gave up, San Diego Chargers assistant GM responded: “We’re not worried about what we gave up; we’re worried about what we got.”

Look at what the Chargers were able to get back. In his first 8 seasons in the league, Eric has been to the Pro Bowl 3 times,  selected to the All-Pro team 5 straight seasons (twice as first-team All-Pro) and he led the league in interceptions in 2011.

He will be entering his 9th season in the league and will be up for a new contract at the end of the year. Remember the last time that Weddle signed a new deal?
