Jarret Johnson Cap Number $7.5 million Cap Savings if cut: $5 million
Johnson is not particularly a loose end on the roster, but the team has a couple of young outside linebackers that they want to get playing time. Melvin Ingram and Jerry Attaochu will be the future at outside linebacker for this team. They could use the playing time.
The team still could use a veteran presence on the outside and Johnson would fit the role nicely.Does the team want that extra $5 million to use on other options though?
Johnson is still a productive veteran. He played in 15 games in 2014 and finished with 36 tackles and a sack. That is his highest tackle total as a San Diego Charger.
Rex Ryan and the Jets came to town earlier in the season and Rex shared his thoughts on Jarret:
“I always like drafting guys that you don’t want your kids to play against,” Ryan said. “And you don’t want your kids to play against Jarret Johnson.” – UT San Diego
Johnson may be contemplating retirement this offseason. We will wait to see what he chooses to do as the offseason progresses.
