The San Diego Chargers were going to enter the season with Jason Verrett and Shareee Wright as the top corners on the roster before the Kansas City Chiefs decided to gift us a little something. On June 13 the Chiefs cut ties with their Pro Bowl corner and 12 days later he agreed to a contract to join our roster. Brandon Flowers was a San Diego Charger. He was signed to a 1-year deal.

Flowers has since been the best corner on the team and should be a priority signing for the Chargers in the offseason. The team needs to keep him around as the starting corner and allow him to work with Jason Verrett in the secondary. They would be a tough pair of corners in the secondary.

Brandon has 50 tackles this year (more than Jarret Johnson and Manti Te’o) and leads the team in interceptions. He has 3 of the team’s 7 interceptions. No other player on the roster has multiple interceptions.

When he joined the Chargers, the thought of facing against his former team was part of his decision making. The first time the Chargers faced off against the Chiefs this season, Brandon was dealing with an injured groin and was a question mark to play. He wanted to do whatever he could to face off against them though.

“To be honest with you, when I came here I knew I was going to be able to face the Chiefs,” Flowers said. “So I definitely wanted to face those guys. But I can’t go out there and just be so excited that I can’t play my game I’ve been playing. So I just have to settle down, let all of the excitement go and just go play ball like I’ve been playing.”

In that first game, Flowers was only able to play in 20 of the team’s 74 defensive snaps before he had to sit and rest the hamstring. With Flowers out, the team had to rely on Richard Marshall to take the snaps at corner for the team. We all remember how bad he was playing for us this season when he was on the team. Brandon is much healthier this time around.

There will be bigger stakes on the line in this game. The San Diego Chargers playoff hopes are on the line in this game. When they win, they get to go into the playoffs. He should be healthy and ready to go on Sunday. He will be in his former hometown looking to clinch the playoffs. What a great win it would be for Brandon Flowers.
