There is a “possibility” that Ryan Mathews and Keenan Allen will get on the field on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. Mike McCoy is leaving the door cracked open a bit.
This is playoff time for the San Diego Chargers. If Ryan or Keenan can suit up and make an impact, the team could really use them in this matchup. This is to keep the hopes alive. Win and we are in.
The Chiefs are still alive for the playoffs… barely. They will be fighting for an opportunity to get in. The San Diego Chargers know that they will get in with a win. A loss will send the Chargers home early to watch the playoffs in their pajamas with a bowl of Doritos on their laps.
Of the two injured players, the San Diego Chargers could use Ryan Mathews the most. The team misses a running game when he is off of the field.
Branden Oliver is doing his best to bring a run game to the field, but he doesn’t make the impact that Ryan can make. Ryan has carried the ball at a 4.5 yard average while Branden Oliver has done it a whole yard less at 3.5 yards per carry. We won’t talk about Donald Brown does on the field. He may have been demoted to the 4th back on the roster behind Ronnie Brown after last week.
Ryan has not been on the practice field since he injured his ankle against the New England Patriots. He has had a couple of weeks off to help get some rest on the ankle. Hopefully it is enough for him to get back on the field in the biggest game of the season. We could use him against this defense.
