When evaluating the Chargers current roster, the safety position isn’t the first one to come to mind as needing to be addressed. And in fact if we look further, we will see that Eric Weddle is one of the league’s most complete and productive at the position. He is the leader of our defense and a fan favorite. But what happens when he gets a true strong safety next to him? Jahleel Addai has played decent, but needs to elevate his game to remain in the starting lineup. In two seasons with the Chargers he has just one forced fumble, which seems crazy when you take a look at the hits he lays on players. His coverage skills are questionable and he doesn’t get his head around to locate the ball efficiently. That could be one of the reasons that he doesn’t have a single pass deflection or interception this season. Since the departure of Steve Gregory in 2012, there has been a void left at strong safety that has simply been patched over rather than filled.

Here is a quick glimpse at some of the strong safety position talent that is entering the NFL draft in 2015.
