Yes it’s only December and not even playoff time yet, but it’s far enough into the season to clearly see the voids in our team as a whole. One of those glaring needs is some consistency at running back. Mathews is a great pure runner WHEN HEALTHY… key words there. But there is no way in my mind that San Diego is going to pay to keep around a guy who misses more time than not. Woodhead is amazing as a complementary and 3rd down back, but doesn’t have the size to be a bruiser. Branden Oliver is a tremendous undrafted talent, but doesn’t have the greatest hands out of the backfied, misses pass protection consistently, and lacks elite speed to seperate once clearing the first level of the defense. And Donald Brown is as underwhelming as any recent free agent pickup I have seen.

Here is a quick glimpse of some of the talent expecting to be entering the draft in 2015, as potential targets for San Diego. By no means am I stating that running back is our greatest needs, but am simply breaking down the draftable options by position.
