The official league standings on NFL.com have three teams in first place: The San Diego Chargers, the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles. According to Siri, the San Diego Chargers are first in the NFL, but if you look at the NFL.com the list stands as Cowboys, Eagles, Chargers. So, I thought I would look a the stats to see if anyone really is standing out in the race for first place. I highlighted the best, let’s see how they add up.
San Diego Chargers (AFC): Record – 5-1, total points scored – 164, points allowed 91, net points 73, touchdowns 18, conference wins 4-0
Dallas Cowboys (NFC): Record – 5-1, total points scored – 165, points allowed 126, net points 51, touchdowns 18, conference wins 3-1
Philadelphia Eagles (NFC): Record – 5-1, total points scored – 183, points allowed 132, net points 39, touchdowns 21, conference wins 3-1
If you add up total stats the San Diego Chargers are the clear lead with the Eagles in second, followed by the Cowboys. But if you look at game average and team rankings it looks as though the Cowboys lead, followed by the Eagles and Chargers. That said, some of these stats have more value to analysts than others. Net points, for example, are considered to be one of the most important stats. You can see in the stats above that the Chargers have the highest net points.
Chime in football fans – what do you think sets these teams apart? Who do you think really is the best in the NFL going in to week 7?
