With their 0-31 shutout win (the first of this NFL season) over the New York Jets, the San Diego Chargers stay in first place in the AFC West!  Wait, not just the west, the entire AFC conference.  That’s right, my friends, if the NFL season ended today the 4-1 Chargers would be the #1 seed in the playoff picture.  Not a bad place to be sitting going in to week six of the 2014 season.

For the first time NFL analysts are calling the Chargers “legit”.  With their fourth consecutive win and the fact they are sitting atop the AFC, the Bolts are finally starting to get the respect they deserve.  The Bolts dominated the now 1-4 Jets in all facets, moving the ball at will while not allowing the New York offense to cross midfield until well into the fourth quarter (I believe there were 7ish minutes remaining).  The Chargers also dominated in yardage 439-153.

The Jets attempted a QB swap, but the Bolts defense was not to be surprised.  There would be no run, no pass and a lot of practice for their punter.

The MVP of the game came in the form of a 5’8″, 208 pound running back.  Branden Oliver reminds me a little bit of all of our favorite RB’s.  The Tomlinson stiff arm, the Tolbert twist and the Sproles run style and end zone vision.  Oliver, an undrafted free agent out of Buffalo, piled up 182 total yards and ran in for two touchdowns.  It was a great outing for the rookie who got the opportunity because our third string RB Brown went down with a concussion.

The playcalling, the discipline, the team spirit and the execution.  This girl could not have asked for anything more from either side of the ball.  Well played boys, well played.

The current standings for AFC West division:

San Diego Chargers 4-1

Denver Broncos 3-1

Kansas City Chiefs 2-3

Oakland Raiders 0-4

Up next:  Oakland, KC and Denver.  October is division rivalry month and it will be a great show.  ?  Bolt Pride!
