San Diego Chargers RB Ryan Mathews mishandled the snap and attempted to pick up a fumble when his cleat got stuck to the turf and twisted awkwardly. He had to be taken off of the field in a cart and after some examination, it has been determined that he has sprained his MCL.
Mathews is a big key to the offense despite the fumbles he had in the game on Sunday. He needs to keep a better hold of that football, but he still the best option to hand the football off to in running situations.Hopefully he will be able to return to the field quickly and hopefully he has a little more concentration when handling the football.
If Mathews is to miss any time on the field, Danny Woodhead and Donald Brown will have a larger role on offense. Preseason star Branden Oliver will also get an opportunity to produce on the field on offense. Woodhead and Brown likely will get the most work.
