Kwame Geathers placed on IR, Team gets to 75 players

August 24, 2014; Santa Clara, CA, USA; San Diego Chargers nose tackle Kwame Geathers (95) is carted off the field against the San Francisco 49ers during the first quarter at Levi
The San Diego Chargers made moves in order to bring the roster to 75 players and in a surprise move, the team placed NT Kwame Geathers onto the IR list. The team also placed Ricky Tjong-A-Tjoe and Marcus Cromartie onto the IR. The team put Jeromey Clary onto the PUP list and released Brandon Ghee. The team is now at 75 players and will need to cut it down to 53 players by the end of the week.

The team was relieved with the status on Geathers when they found out there was no ACL tear and it was just a hyperextension of the knee, but the relief was not enough to keep him on the roster for the season. Placing him on the IR will keep him on the sideline for the entire year. With Geathers out, the team will have to find someone else to lock down the middle of the defense. Sean Lissemore will be the starter, but there is no depth behind him. The team will have to rely on the rookie Ryan Carrethers to hold down the position unless they bring in a free agent to lock down the middle.
I can’t see the team moving forward on the defensive line without bringing in another body to use up front.
